Volcanikka smiling with her arms outstretched during a fight in Hell in Invincible season 4

There are a ton of questions surrounding the universe of Invincible, but season 4 just answered one of the biggest ones. The world of Invincible is definitely a weird one, with it coming pre-loaded with all kinds of different dimensions, strange characters, and complex lore that aren't explicitly explained in the show.

However, the Amazon Prime Video series just added a new development that wasn't in the comics, finally explaining some of these strange happenings. Invincible season 4, episode 4 sees Mark travel to Hell, although not by his own accord. Instead, he is pulled to the Under Realm by Damien Darkblood, who needs help facing a new threat. The magma-based villain Volcanikka wants to take over the Under Realm and cast out the demons, setting up her grander ambition: an invasion of Earth's surface. While there, Mark discovers the answer to all kinds of secrets about the Invincible universe, some that his father, Omni-Man, never thought to look into. Invincible Season 4, Episode 4 Explains Where All These Monsters Are Coming From While in Hell, Mark asks Damien if this is the actual Hell, and if it is, if Heaven is real. Damien goes on to explain the history of Earth to Mark, and it is like nothing he has ever heard. According to Damien, Earth has gone through six Ages. The First Age was full of terrifying, dangerous beasts. The Second Age has smaller beasts that, while still dangerous, weren't as bad as their predecessors. Damien declines to give any information about the Third Age, leading some fans to speculate that this is when dinosaurs ruled the Earth. The Fourth Age was when the Vile came about, with Volcanikka coming from this period and sticking around until now. The Fifth Age is when the demons appeared, with Satan being their ruler. Finally, humans appeared in the Sixth Age, with this being the period that Invincible's world is currently in. According to Satan, with each new age, the creatures of the previous age move deeper and deeper underground. These beings sometimes resurface, however, with some of the kaiju that Mark previously fought being creatures of the Second Age. This finally explains where all of Invincible's monsters were coming from, something that fans have been wondering since the show started. Would season 4 break that impressive trend? Not a chance. Posts By Craig Elvy Invincible's New Lore Totally Changes How We View Mark's Universe This new Invincible lore is incredibly interesting, as it shows how different the show's Earth is from ours. On top of that, this revelation means that almost no humans know the true history of Earth, with Mark being one of the only ones who knows what actually happened in the past. This lore also makes the universe of Invincible more cohesive, as the origins of the monsters are no longer random. They are all tied together by the Six Ages, explaining why they keep appearing. On top of that, Damien's speech confirms that there probably is no afterlife in the Invincible universe. Hell exists on Earth, and it isn't a spiritual realm, while Damien says that Heaven isn't real at all. No other afterlife has been confirmed, so it seems likely that when people die in Invincible, they're just gone. Invincible's Ancient History Feels A Lot Like The Matrix Weirdly enough, this Invincible lore makes the world feel a lot like The Matrix. In the movie series, Neo learns that what is happening isn't new. Instead, there have been multiple cycles of the Matrix, each with its own Ones. This completely changes Neo's world, as it makes him realize that the world is much bigger than what he knows. This may end up giving Mark an existential crisis in later episodes of Invincible, as he finally knows the truth. 195 8.9/10 8/10 Invincible 10 stars 9 stars 8 stars 7 stars 6 stars 5 stars 4 stars 3 stars 2 stars 1 star Like Follow Followed TV-MA Animation Adventure Action Superhero Release Date March 26, 2021 Network Amazon Prime Video Showrunner Robert Kirkman, Simon Racioppa Writers Robert Kirkman Franchise Invincible Cast See All
