Despite social media speculation, Juneau officials assure the public that there have been no reports of ICE agents detaining tribal citizens in the city. Local law enforcement emphasizes the lack of confirmed information regarding ICE presence but urges residents to report any encounters.

Rumors have been swirling on social media about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents detaining tribal citizens in Juneau , Alaska . However, local officials have vehemently denied these claims. City and Borough of Juneau Mayor Beth Weldon addressed the speculation, stating that there has been no confirmation of any detentions or questioning regarding immigration status. She emphasized that neither the police chief nor the city attorney has received any reports of such incidents.

Weldon clarified that while the city lacks information about ICE agents' presence in Juneau or any potential detentions, the situation remains fluid. Juneau Police Department Deputy Chief Krag Campbell echoed Weldon's sentiments, confirming that the department has received inquiries about ICE activity in the city but hasn't encountered any reports of Juneau residents being detained. Campbell explained that federal agencies not based in Juneau typically inform the department when they are conducting operations in the city. He urged residents to contact the JPD if they encounter ICE officers. Campbell further clarified that U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents are currently in Juneau to provide support for drug enforcement efforts. While this agency, like ICE, falls under the Department of Homeland Security, they are distinct entities. Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska President Chalyee Éesh Richard Peterson, while acknowledging the lack of concrete evidence regarding tribal citizens' detentions, advised tribal members to ensure their tribal IDs are valid and carry them when in public.
