DC's mainline Wonder Woman has long wielded her signature Lasso of Truth, compelling those touched by it to speak nothing but the truth. However, DC's new Absolute Wonder Woman just revealed a brand-new lasso, one that seems to provide a more brutal power by comparison.
In this darker DC Universe created by Darkseid, Diana of the Wild Isle has quite an impressive arsenal at her disposal. Beyond her massively large sword, magic, and armor, we've known for some time that Absolute Wonder Woman possesses three different lassos . Absolute Wonder Woman Finally Unleashes The Troika At the end of the new Absolute Wonder Woman #18 by writer Kelly Thompson and artist Hayden Sherman, Wonder Woman prepares for a major confrontation. Her opponent is a fiery version of the magician Giovanni Zatara, who looks to be working for Veronica Cale, Director of GATES. Having already suffered from one of his attacks previously, Diana elects to wield a weapon we've only seen briefly: her mysterious blue lasso. Confirming that it's named the Troika , this new lasso honestly looks more like a whip with three tails, sometimes known as a scourge. According to Diana, the Troika was made from the blood of the man-eating Scylla, the fur of the three-headed dog Cerebus, and the sacred icy tears of the River Styx, all major threats/dangers from Greek mythology. Absolute Wonder Woman also confirms that the Troika was blessed by Hecate herself, apparently having the power to know its targets' secrets...and then break them of those secrets. As such, it seems this brand-new Lasso is a more aggressive version of the more traditional Lasso of Truth, capable of weaponizing buried truths rather than just revealing them. Likewise, it also seems as though this new weapon is a lasso of last resort, with Diana herself suggesting that the Troika may also leave its wielder changed after using it. One Year Later, DC Has Finally Debuted All Of Absolute Wonder Woman's Lassos Almost exactly a year ago, Absolute Wonder Woman #6 was the first issue to reveal the three different lassos belonging to Diana of the Wild Isle. Now, DC has officially revealed all three of Absolute Wonder Woman’s unique lassos in full and what they can do. Before the Troika, the red Nemesis lasso was revealed to have been forged by Circe using the remains of a basilisk, infused with the blood of Prometheus, and blessed by Demeter. Nemeis burns its targets in proportion to their sins, a brutal weapon of judgment. There's also the green Sacrifice/Θυσία lasso. Wonder Woman's Sacrifice lasso was also created by Circe, capable of transforming the body and mind of those it touches. Diana used Sacrifice to turn herself into Medusa, allowing her to defeat the kaiju-sized Tetracide to stone . Now, the blue Troika lasso completes the set in Absolute Wonder Woman. With all three lassos now finally revealed in full, it's going to be pretty cool to see Diana wielding this latest lasso against Zatara and any future threats in the issues to come. That being said, there's still that teased risk that apparently comes with wielding the Troika. One has to wonder what the cost might be for Diana herself, the longer she uses her blue lasso. At any rate, it's pretty cool that the mysteries of Absolute Wonder Woman's third lasso are finally being answered with this new DC arc.
