Another Arctic surge is expected by the weekend
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Extreme cold and dangerously low wind chills are already in place across central and south Alabama as you head out the door. After you get through this morning’s brutal conditions, the rest of the week will gradually warm, but don’t get comfortable—another shot of Arctic air is headed our way by the weekend.
Right Now: Dangerously cold with wind chills in the single digits to low teens. Limit outdoor time and bundle up before heading out.Tuesday Night: Lows will drop to the low to mid-20s across the region. Conditions will be slightly less frigid than this morning, but still cold enough to require precautions for pipes, pets, and plants.Mainly sunny skies with highs in the mid to upper 40s. This marks the beginning of a gradual warm-up that will continue through the end of the week. Overnight lows will settle in the low to mid-20s.Afternoon highs will reach near 50 degrees as we approach the weekend. Conditions remain mainly dry with a few clouds increasing late Friday and a sprinkle along a cold front. Many places could drop below 20 degrees by sunrise Saturday. Afternoon highs Saturday will likely stay in the 30s with a biting north wind. If you must go outside, wear multiple layers, a hat, gloves, and a scarf to protect exposed skin. Check on vulnerable people: Elderly neighbors, friends, and family members may need help.
