Dallas police say suspects rammed a truck into a vape shop on Lower Greenville Avenue around 5:25 a.m., then fled in a different car.
Thieves rammed a pickup truck into a smoke shop in Northeast Dallas early Friday, stealing thousands of dollars in merchandise and causing major damage to the building, according to police and store owners.
Dallas Police responded to a burglary in progress just before 5:30 a.m. at World of Smoke & Vape, located in the 5900 block of Greenville Avenue.Investigators said a group of people drove a pickup truck into the storefront, shattered the glass and security gate, and stole product before driving off in a different vehicle. Surveillance video from the store showed a red pickup backing into the front entrance at high speed, then pulling forward as a black sedan pulls up nearby. Three men — two wearing masks — can be seen rushing inside the store and grabbing armfuls of merchandise before leaving with the stolen items. The entire burglary lasted about three minutes, the store owner told NBC 5.The owner said police told him the pickup truck had been reported stolen and was likely hotwired for the crime. The thieves left the truck outside the store and police later towed it away. Investigators are now searching for the black sedan seen in the video that was used to escape.A co-owner of the business, who did not want to be named, said the group stole at least $10,000 worth of merchandise, primarily vapes and related products. “I don’t know what they’re doing with them, but they’re definitely not smoking all those vapes themselves,” he said. “Maybe selling it on the black market or something.” He estimated that total losses, including damaged inventory and structural repairs, could reach $100,000. He said much of the remaining merchandise was damaged during the break-in and cannot be sold. Dallas Police officers remained at the scene for several hours Friday morning, taking fingerprints and processing the business as part of the investigation. Despite the extensive damage, the co-owner said the shop is working to reopen as soon as possible and hopes to resume business by Saturday. “We’ve worked hard to build up our client base,” he said. “I just want to tell our customers we’ll be back up and running by tomorrow, hopefully, and to support us through this.”
