A 19-year-old cosmetology student in north Columbus is working to replace thousands of dollars in stolen hair tools after her car was driven away by thieves outside her home earlier this month. Rylee Gilliland said her Kia Optima was taken March 23 in the middle of the night while it was parked in front of her home on Sharon Woods Boulevard.
“It was so scary, I was freaking out, I had no idea what happened,” Gilliland said. Gilliland said she had bought the car about a month ago. She says police told her the theft may be connected to the “Kia Boyz.” Thieves didn’t just take the vehicle, she said. Gilliland said thousands of dollars worth of hair salon equipment was inside the trunk, including hairbrushes, curling irons and blow dryers she needs, to finish cosmetology school and begin her career.Columbus police said Gilliland’s car was not the only vehicle recently stolen in the area. Over the past 10 days, police said six cars have been stolen by thieves.Gilliland urged others to take precautions. “Put your cars away, stay safe, lock your doors, don’t have anything of valuable in your car,” she said.Police investigating shooting; victim in critical condition Columbus police are responding to a shooting that left a victim in critical condition Monday afternoon.Few details were immediately available, but ABC 6 confirm'Railroad torpedoes' discovered while cleaning garage in Clark County
