San Antonio is experiencing a significant drop in temperatures with the arrival of an arctic cold front. The city, which reached a high of 72 degrees earlier today, is now seeing temperatures plunge into the 30s and 20s, marking the first prolonged period below freezing in the region. The cold front is accompanied by strong winds, leading to wind chill temperatures as low as 10 to 15 degrees colder than the actual air temperature.
San Antonio - The much-advertised arctic cold front has arrived in San Antonio after a high earlier today of 72 degrees. Temperatures are now rapidly falling and winds are strengthening as the colder air rushes in. Temperatures will drop into the 30s by 9pm to 9:30pm then into the mid-upper 20s by Wednesday morning. This will be the first night with a prolonged period below freezing in our region. A Wind Advisory is in effect tonight through Wednesday morning.
This will make for even colder wind chill temperatures 10 to 15 degrees colder than the air temperature. Keep in mind, wind chill only impacts people or pets. It has no impact on plants or pipes. As the wind removes the layer of body heat we have, it makes it feel colder to exposed skin. A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect tonight for wind chill temperatures in the teens. An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect tomorrow night to Thursday morning with wind chill temperatures from 7 to 15 degrees in and around San Antonio. If in the Hill Country, you have two nights with the Extreme Cold Warning. As for moisture, there could be a bit of mist in our southern tier counties or near the Rio Grande early Wednesday. If this verifies and temperatures are near freezing, we'd want to watch bridges and overpasses in our southern or western counties. Otherwise, roads will be dry across much of our area for the commute. Skies start cloudy Wednesday then turn partly sunny later in the day. Thursday starts mainly clear and very cold followed by increasing clouds later in the day. By Friday, we're overcast all day and only in the 30s. Any chance of precip. Friday is low and very light if we see anything. We may have a better chance Friday night to Saturday morning to see a little precipitation move in. This would need to be monitored as temperatures could be around the freezing mark
