An intense cold front is pushing a frigid air mass southward, reaching all the way to Texas and bringing the potential for freezing temperatures as far south as Brownsville. Fortunately, daytime highs will remain above freezing for now, but we’re facing several nights of widespread hard freezes, so make sure to prepare accordingly.
This cold front will arrive Tuesday evening, causing temperatures to plummet by 15 to 20 degrees in just one hour as it sweeps through. Strong north winds will follow, making Wednesday feel even colder, with wind chills dipping into the teens. The coldest morning will likely be Thursday, with temperatures in the teens and low 20s around San Antonio. The record low of 26F from 2021 will likely be shattered. Friday morning brings another hard freeze, with temperatures in the 20s. However, increasing cloud cover Thursday night should keep us from seeing those frigid teens and low 20s again. As for moisture, trends continue to point toward dry conditions as the arctic air arrives. Next rain chance will be Friday into Saturday. Temperatures begin to moderate later in the weekend.
