Ex-Huskies volleyball coach Mark Tennant was remembered Thursday as a man with a huge legacy.
Mark Tennant was a quiet and studious man, but his impact on the volleyball world — both locally and globally — landed with a big, sustained boom.
Four years after his arrival, the Huskies won the Canada West title. Ten years after he got here, they’d won three national championships, all in a row — 1979, 1980, 1981. “Everything I needed to know, I learned from Mark as I embarked on my coaching career. He believed in me. He filled me with knowledge. He showed me the way to do the job. He was way beyond his years, as far as coaching excellence.”Tennant was not a demonstrative fellow, but Eisler said that since his passing she’s heard from coaches around the country who benefitted from his mentorship.
“Volleyball’s better in Saskatoon and Saskatchewan, and I think volleyball’s better in Canada and in the world, because of the impact and the work Mark put in.”
