Could this be the best Corvette ever?

Chevrolet offers more details on the coming Corvette Grand Sport, available in both coupe and convertible form, with a new LS6 V8 making 535 hp and 520 lb-ft.Numerous suspension, wheel, and tire options are available.

No price yet, but it might be under $100,000? Who knows. We'll know later this year when the Grand Sport comes out. Remember how Goldilocks chose the porridge that was not too hot and not too cold but just right? Imagine if Goldilocks wandered into a Chevy dealer and had to choose a Corvette. The little trespasser wouldn’t hesitate to chose the new Corvette Grand Sport over the base model—not enough pizzazz—or the Z06—too terrifying. She’d jump in and haul buns off into the forest before the dealership lot boy could activate the LoJack. With its list of performance options, the brand-new 2027 Corvette Grand Sport may be just right. For starters, it gets GM’s sixth and latest version of the small-block Chevy, dubbed the LS6. It is a naturally aspirated evolution of the 6.2-liter LT2 V8 in the 2026 Corvette. Engineers stroked the LT2 to 100 mm to get the extra 500 cc of displacement but kept the direct injection and port fuel injection of the old motor. It also retains the cam-in-block design—i.e., pushrods—rocker arms, and two valves per cylinder. Some will love that, others will decry the lack of a higher-tech valvetrain. But the resulting output goes up to a more-than-satisfying 535 hp and 520 lb-ft. The higher piston speeds of the longer stroke necessitated forged pistons and con rods. The whole setup increases power by 45 ponies and torque by 50 lb-ft. The engine has bigger throttle bodies and a much higher compression ratio—up to 13:1 versus the previous 11.5:1.Why that particular engine setup?“There is no replacement for displacement,” said assistant chief engineer of the new engine Mike Kociba. “Our next-generation LS6 engine pushes 409 cubic inches of jackhammer fury through the tailpipes. Combining large displacement, modern technology, and proven small-block V8 heritage will deliver a bold new chapter in performance.”If that particular rate of jackhammer fury is not enough for you, there is also an all-wheel-drive Grand Sport X model that adds a 186-hp front-axle electric motor and compact battery pack from the Corvette ZR1X to create an eAWD Corvette “that is as confident in challenging weather as it is on a dry track.” Sounds almost like a ZR1X for less. Maybe? We’ll know how much of a bargain when pricing comes out closer to production. To get all that power to the ground and do something with it, the Grand Sport includes Magnetic Ride Control as standard, paired with a Touring Suspension and Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tires. If that’s not enough, there’s the Z52 Sport Performance package, which offers a stiffer suspension, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires, and high-performance J56 iron brakes from the Corvette Z06. An even sportier setup would be the Z52 Track Performance package, which offers carbon-ceramic J57 brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires to go with track-focused chassis tuning. That is paired with a carbon-fiber splitter, dive planes, rockers, and wing, plus underbody strakes, making it what Chevy calls its “most track-capable Grand Sport to date.”Outside are the trademark Grand Sport hash marks, seen on the front fenders of C4, C6, and C7 models, but now moved to the rear of the car for the first time—a visual nod to the V8 engine's position behind the cockpit in the current Corvette generation. The blue paint you see is the same Admiral Blue Metallic from the C4 Grand Sport. For Launch Edition Grand Sports, there is a showy Santorini Blue-Dipped interior with headrests and floor mats sporting the Grand Sport logo. The only thing missing is pricing, which, as we said, will come closer to the Grand Sport’s launch later this year. “Corvette Stingray is an everyday supercar,” Chevrolet says. “Both Corvette Grand Sport and Grand Sport X are driver’s cars first, whether the day calls for a long highway stretch, a favorite canyon road, or a session at the track. With the new Grand Sport lineup and the refreshed Stingray powered by a next-generation V8, the Corvette lineup's most attainable models are stronger than ever.”
