The 2027 Chevy Corvette Grand Sport has been revealed with a new 6.7-liter V-8 engine.The pushrod powertrain sends 535 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque through an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox to the rear wheels.
The Grand Sport wears the wider body of the Corvette Z06 and offers an optional carbon-fiber aero package and carbon-ceramic brakes.The Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport has returned. After giving us a peek at the new Grand Sport ahead of the 12 Hours of Sebring last weekend, Chevy is now sharing more details about the variant that will slot in between the base Stingray trim and the Corvette Z06. The Corvette Grand Sport will go on sale for the 2027 model year, and the big news is that it ushers in a new engine for Chevy's iconic sports car.Yes, the Grand Sport heralds the arrival of a new small-block V-8. Dubbed the LS6, the new eight-cylinder engine displaces 6.7 liters and cranks out 535 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque. In the Grand Sport, all of that oomph is directed exclusively to the rear wheels, but Chevy will also offer a Grand Sport X with a hybrid all-wheel-drive setup, which you can read more about here.The 6.7-liter V-8 is hooked up to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. We expect it to zip to 60 mph in well under 3.0 seconds, given that a Z51-equipped Stingray, which makes 495 hp and 470 pound-feet of torque from a 6.2-liter V-8, did the same deed in 2.8 ticks in Car and Driver testing. Chevy says this new LS6 engine features hardware focused on delivering usable power. It has a higher 13.0:1 compression ratio to make the engine more responsive, while a larger throttle body and a tunnel-ram intake manifold with high-velocity ports help the engine suck in more air. You've likely clocked that this new V-8 is half a liter larger than the V-8 that the C8 Corvette launched with, and Chevy says that increased displacement came from a longer stroke. We've detailed more of the engineering that went into the LS6 in a separate story.Chevy says the LS6 produces more torque than any other naturally aspirated V-8 engine used in a standard Corvette in the model's 70-plus-year history. The LS6 will be built in Flint, Michigan, and not only will it feature in the Grand Sport and Grand Sport X, but it will also be offered as standard on the base 2027 Corvette Stingray.The Grand Sport will also feature several optional packages to increase its capabilities. The car comes standard with Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tires and new brakes that are designed to minimize brake dust and maintain a corrosion-resistant appearance. Magnetic Ride Control, which uses adaptive magnetorheological dampers, is standard.Upgrading to the Z52 Sport Performance package brings a stiffer suspension, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires, and the J56 high-performance iron brakes from the Z06. At the top of the range is the Track Performance package, adding sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires and the J57 carbon-ceramic brakes from the Z06's Z07 package. It also includes track-focused chassis tuning and a carbon-fiber aerodynamic package, with a front splitter, dive planes, underbody strakes, and a rear wing.A quad center exhaust setup is also available, the first time such an exhaust configuration has been found on a pushrod V-8 for the C8 generation, and this option will also be offered on the Stingray. The Performance Traction Management system seen on other General Motors sports cars, which allows you to intricately adjust the traction control intervention, is optional.Visually, the Grand Sport isn't too different from the Corvette we already know, wearing the widebody look seen on the Z06 that includes a bigger side air intake. The iconic hash marks painted over the front fenders of past Grand Sports have now been moved to the rear fenders to emphasize the C8's mid-engined layout. Chevy also brought back Admiral Blue Metallic, a color from the C4 generation, to pair with the center stripe and fender hash marks, offered in a variety of hues. There's also another new exterior paint color, Pitch Gray Metallic, and the Grand Sport features unique 10-spoke forged aluminum wheels with four available finishes. Chevy will also offer a Launch Edition for the Grand Sport's first year on sale, which brings a unique Santorini Blue-Dipped interior with red stitching and accents. A plan view graphic of the Grand Sport is embossed in the headrests and stitched into the floor mats, while the visor over the gauge cluster is wrapped in leather with special red accents that align with the center mark on the steering wheel. A special Grand Sport badge on the steering wheel and a Launch Edition plaque on the central speaker grille round out the upgrades. The 2027 Corvette Stingray and Corvette Grand Sport will enter production this summer, with sales likely starting in the second half of the year.
