The Boys, a critically acclaimed superhero satire series, came to a close after five seasons. The final season received mixed reactions and poor viewership compared to its previous seasons, with an audience score of 52% on Rotten Tomatoes.
After five culture-defining seasons and 40 episodes ranging from breathtakingly original to unexpectedly cookie-cutter, Prime Video's blockbuster superhero satire series The Boys came to an end on May 20.
The series, based on a rather niche comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, premiered in 2019 and quickly became a runaway sensation. The show offered not only a critique of comic-book culture, but also made some stinging points about American capitalism, white nationalism, and toxic masculinity. Created by Eric Kripke, the series enjoyed excellent critical response throughout its run. But the viewership left a lot to be desired during the series' final season.
Starring the returning Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, and Laz Alonso, the fifth season of The Boys holds a"Certified Fresh" 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The aggregator website's consensus reads,"The Boys stays true to its form and completes its mission with ample panache, narrative pay-off, and an excess of blood and guts to deviously glorious effect.
" The series finale, however, received notably mixed reactions. This perhaps explains the season's poor 52% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and its lukewarm viewership.
