Streetsboro couple Tamia and Tim Woods are taking their fight to save kids to the courtroom.

The Woods say their mission is holding Meta Platforms Incorporated, the company that owns Instagram and Facebook , accountable for the death of their only son, James Woods .“I am extremely angry that Instagram did not step in and take initiative to help protect my child,” exclaimed Tamia Woods .

James Woods, a 17-year old track star, took his life November of 2022 after being a victim of sextortion. The predators tried to blackmail him for thousands of dollars. “My son was being attacked online, and we know that they have a watchdog system that goes on when people interact on their platforms. They never stepped in not one time,” angrily said Tim Woods.New bill named in honor of Streetsboro teen James Woods The Woods’ wrongful death lawsuit filed last week says in part, “META knowingly facilitates sextortion of vulnerable teens.” “META designed, manufactured, and sold social media products that were unreasonably dangerous because they were designed in a manner that effectively matched predators with children, shared the personal data of children with those predators, and exposed minor users to harms by design.” The couple says their attorneys who also represented another family back in 2022 sued meta back then, for failing to act on reported sextortion predators.“Our son should still be here!” remarked Tamia Woods. The couple says they don’t want other families to endure the incredible loss they feel each and every day. “Seatbelts saved one generation. Online safety will save our next generation,” exclaimed Tamia Woods.Preliminary autopsy results revealed for American college student found dead in water in Spain15-year-old killed in North Avondale was considered a missing child, police sayUniversity of Toledo researchers seek volunteers for Lake Erie air quality studyDaughters seek answers in their mother’s unsolved Cleveland murder 13 years later
