The family of Jose Osma, who was brutally beaten and suffered severe injuries before dying, addressed the court during the sentencing of Dennis Ray, the man convicted of his murder.
Jose Osma suffered severe injuries in the attack and underwent five brain surgeries, spending nearly a year in the hospital before succumbing to those injuries.

“Losing him has left a pain in my heart that will never go away,” said Osma’s daughter, Angelly Osma. “Nothing has been the same without him. ” Family members addressed the court before Dennis Ray, of Roosevelt, the man convicted of Osma’s murder, learned his fate. Osma’s son remembered his father as strong, while expressing anger and grief.
“You have my condolences. It was regrettable that he lost his life,” Ray said.
“But I wasn’t the cause of that. ”“He maintains he’s innocent. He will fight on appeal to have this verdict overturned, and we’ll see if it comes back on appeal,” LoPiccolo said. In court, prosecutors told the judge that Ray showed no signs of remorse during his arrest, trial or conviction.
He was ultimately given the maximum sentence.
“My heart is with the family,” Donnelly said. “I hope they find some solace in the fact that he was punished for what he did to their father. ” Prosecutors said a second man also participated in the attack. In 2024, Tyrell Gutherie was sentenced to 18 years in prison for his role.
