Brandon Sanderson, a renowned science fiction and fantasy author, has collaborated with Tomorrow Studios, an indie film and television production company behind 'One Piece' on Netflix, for a television adaptation of his sci-fi novel 'Skyward'.
Just a few months after signing an uncommon deal with Apple TV to adapt two bestselling sci-fi book series for the screen, your favorite sci-fi fantasy author has landed yet another adaptation.
Brandon Sanderson, whose phenomenal writing has earned him widespread acclaim, is partnering with an indie studio to adapt another of his sci-fi novels. This time, he'll be working alongside Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen — the Marvel-favored writer-producer duo best known for Agents of S.H. I.E.L. D. According to recent reports, Tomorrow Studios, the studio behind Netflix's One Piece, is developing a television adaptation of Skyward, the first book in Sanderson's Cytoverse franchise.
This is"a dream come true" for the author, who admitted as much after working on Skyward"for nearly a decade.
" Sanderson will co-write the pilot script alongside Whedon and Tancharoen. The trio will also executive produce the series with Tomorrow Studios' CEO/Partner Marty Adelstein and President/Partner Becky Clements.
In addition to One Piece, which is heading into its third season on Netflix, Tomorrow Studios recently produced The Better Sister for Prime Video and Physical for Apple TV. Adelstein and Clements also serve as executive producers on Shifting Gears for ABC, while Adelstein is executive producing the upcoming reboot of Prison Break for Hulu.
For those who have yet to check out the Skyward book series, it sees humanity trapped on a harsh planet and constantly under attack by mysterious alien forces. Centered on Spensa Nightshade, she is a determined pilot who dreams of joining the fighter corps to defend humanity and redeem her disgraced father's legacy.
