Rochester, N.Y. - It's time to go up, up and away - indoors!
Armstrong Williams takes on the news of the week and asks the questions you want answered. Don't miss our weekly town hall. Students at Rochester 's John James Audubon School #33 went to new heights Monday, experiencing the wonder and science of a hot air balloon — in the gym.
The group learned about the science of flight and the mechanics of hot air balloons — from the basket to the burner. "There's so much science that you could get into," said pilot Lee . "I can only scratch the surface, but if I can help inspire the students to ask questions and engage in any of their learning, especially the science aspect, I've done my job." "When you bring things in here that are tangible for them, that they can actually be a part of the object and experience the object that they might not otherwise be able to, it heightens their sense of curiosity and willingness to explore the content area more," said Lisa Garrow, the school's principal. The experience is led by Liberty Balloon Company, which will bring the wonder of flight to more than 3,500 Rochester city school students in 2025.
