Crunchyroll's dominance in the anime streaming market might be under threat as Prime Streaming, a competitor, has gained exclusive rights to Nippon Sangoku: The Three Nations of the Crimson Sun, a top-tier action series highly anticipated by fans. This move may indicate a shift in the competition dynamic as Prime Streaming focuses on capturing high-quality, exclusive content to maintain its audience.

If you're looking for the best anime of the season, the first place to look is always Crunchyroll . Somehow, the streaming giant missed out on what is inarguably the best shōnen of Summer 2026.

Crunchyroll still has a ton of great anime series for the current season, but the fact that it missed out on this top-tier action sensation might be a sign that its time as the king of anime streaming in the West is finally being contested. Prime Streaming has exclusive rights to Nippon Sangoku: The Three Nations of the Crimson Sun, a scorchingly hot new series with astounding animation, an incredible main character, and plenty of exceptional side characters to keep the show interesting.

Prime Streaming did a great job grabbing this series, and Crunchyroll messed up big time. Crunchyroll Usually Has All the Hits, But... Crunchyroll is unquestionably the current king of anime for anyone in the West looking for a classic, a modern-day hit, and everything in between.

If someone were to want to start watching anime, the first place they should begin is Crunchyroll, and the same can be said for experts of the genre who want to watch their favorite franchises all over again. Crunchyroll truly has everything. It has the best modern-day shōnen smash-hits like Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, and Chainsaw Man, and it even has deeper, wonderful series you just want to get lost in like Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, Bocchi the Rock!

, and The Apothecary Diaries. Posts 3 By Zach Zamora One of Crunchyroll's most recent accomplishments was the acquisition of Oshi no Ko. Oshi no Ko is a stand-out series that has one of the best first episodes in anime, hands down.

When it first aired on HiDive, fans were surprised that Crunchyroll would let such a monstrously good series slip its grasp, but three years later, every season is available on the platform. Maybe that's Crunchyroll's plan with Nippon Sangoku. Some series take a few episodes, or even seasons, to really hit their stride. Like Oshi no Ko, Nippon Sangoku stands out immediately.

Within the first 10 minutes of the first episode, this series proclaims its dominance, and Prime Streaming couldn't be prouder of itself for getting rights to such a great series. It Missed Out Big Time with Nippon Sangoku There aren't many series that can get the ball rolling within the very first episode. In fact, the"three-episode rule" has become an unwritten guideline most anime watchers follow.

It's a rule that dictates every anime watcher should give a series three episodes before dropping it if it doesn't fit their preference — Nippon Sangoku barely needs three minutes. Nippon Sangoku has an incredible art design, a brutally captivating premise, and one of the most interesting settings in recent memory. The series is set in a near-post-apocalyptic Japan in which the nation falls, and three new nations rise in its place.

Food is scarce, warlords and dictators are abundant, and peace seems like an impossibility. There are plenty of amazing set pieces, a great group of characters, and a complexity most anime franchises are too afraid to touch. The first episode set the tone for the series, and every episode that has followed has only made the series look even better.

Prime Video did a great job bringing Nippon Sangoku to its platform, and an even better job of letting the series do its thing. Prime Video's Must-Watch Movies This WeekendPrime Video's Must-Watch Movies This WeekendPrime Video is one of the best streaming services to check out this weekend, as the platform has a slew of major new releases that will keep subscribers glued to the edge of their couches. On last weekend's Prime Video movie recommendations, I talked in-depth about A Minecraft Movie, The Accountant 2, and Mechanic: Resurrection. At the time of writing, one out of those three recommended movies is seeing major success on the streaming service. Jason Statham's Mechanic: Resurrection is currently the 6th most-watched movie on Prime Video in the United States. For this weekend's list, the perfect follow-up to the action thriller is a new spy movie that is dominating global charts. It is the only full Prime Video Original movie on this weekend's recommendations, though a recent arrival on the streaming service also comes from Amazon MGM Studios, but it was first released in theaters. For Prime Video subscribers looking for a three-movie binge, I feel like this weekend's options would work nicely in that format, offering an intense viewing experience. For those looking to only catch a single movie this weekend on Prime Video, all three options are quite exciting. We have a horror movie with a disturbing twist, a critically acclaimed action thriller that was one of 2025's biggest releases, and the return of a hit spy franchise now in movie format. Strap in for a high-stakes weekend on Prime Video.
