Money Monster follows Lee Gates, the host of a television stock market show of the same name. The events of the film take place one day after the fictional IBIS Clear Capital’s stock suffers a technical glitch, leading to massive losses for its investors.
During Lee’s show the following day, a guy named Kyle sneaks into the studio, holds Lee at gunpoint, and forces him to wear an explosive vest. Soon, Kyle reveals that he lost his life savings of 65,000 after investing in IBIS, which Lee had previously suggested. As tensions rise, Lee and his producer, Patty, begin investigating the company and uncover suspicious activity.
