The release dates of Mel Gibson's sequels to The Passion of the Christ have been shifted, with Part One set to arrive on May 6, 2027, and Part Two to follow on May 25, 2028. Johnny Depp's supernatural revenge thriller Day Drinker has also been rescheduled, taking the place of the previously announced release date for Resurrection.

Parts One and Two have shifted release dates. Part One is now set to arrive on May 6, 2027 , while Part Two will move to May 25, 2028 .

Previously, both films were set to premiere in 2027, with Part One set for March 26, 2027 and Part Two set for May 6, 2027, which would’ve allowed the films to release on Ascension Day and Easter, respectively, in theme with the film’s story. The sequels will once again be directed by Gibson, with Jaakko Ohtonen replacing Jim Caviezel as Jesus in the two films.

The film will also star Mariela Garriga as Mary Magdalene, Pier Luigi Pasino as Peter, Kasia Smutniak as Mary, mother of Jesus, Riccardo Scamarcio as Pontius Pilate, Lorenzo James Henrie as Judas Thaddeus, and more. Gibson has previously teased that he has co-written two different scripts for the project, with the first one described asthat will take audiences to “other realms.

” Lionsgate also shared a first look at the film, which you can see below:In a separate release date shift, Lionsgate has also officially set the release date for Johnny Depp’s upcoming supernatural revenge thriller Day Drinker. The movie will now occupy Resurrection’s previous date of March 26, 2027. Alongside Depp, the film also stars Madelyn Cline, Penélope Cruz, and more. The movie is directed by Marc Webb, and written by Zach Dean.

Day Drinker follows the story of “a private-yacht bartender ,” who “encounters a mysterious onboard guest . They soon find themselves entangled with a criminal figure and connected in ways no one saw coming,” according to the film’s logline.
