by SBG San Antonio Staff MCALLEN , Texas - A McAllen businessman has been sentenced after allegedly using his status to coerce minors into producing pornographic materials for his gratification. Luis Fabian Vela , 62, has pleaded guilty and sentenced to 10 years for coercion and enticement of a minor.
Vela was a local businessman who had a lot of community support but allegedly used that status to entice minors to send sexually explicit photographs of themselves for his gratification. From September 2022 to October 2022, Vela operated a financial account listed under Birdiebistro, a business he owns, and began communicating with a 15-year-old child. Even after learning her age, Vela would communicate with the minor and have conversations that were oftentimes vulgar and sexual. He then asked the minor to produce photos and would then use a Birdiebistro account to pay for the files. Vela will remain in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility to be determined shortly.
