DOTHAN , Ala. - A Dothan man is facing multiple felony counts in connection with a string of vehicle break-ins over the last month, along with the theft of an air conditioning unit. 42-year-old Jonhas Smith was arrested Friday and charged with 35 counts of Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle.
Smith also had several outstanding warrants that he was also taken in on. According to Dothan police, officers responded to the 1400 block of Headland Avenue after a report of a suspicious person. The owner of a nearby business, who had his outside air unit stolen earlier this week, saw the suspect later identified as Smith and believed that it was the person who stole from him on Monday coming back.
Officers were able to link Smith as the person seen in video surveillance captured at the business, while also identifying him as the suspect in connection with several vehicle break-ins over the past week in and around the 100 block and 200 blocks of Ross Clark Circle, the 500 block of Bic Road and at this business in the 1800 block of Reeves Street in addition to taking the air unit. DPD said additional charges for Smith are possible.
