Dothan City Schools’ Gina Burdeshaw Advances as Top 10 Finalist for Claes Nobel Award.
DOTHAN, Ala. - Dothan City Schools announced today that Gina Burdeshaw, graphic arts educator at the Dothan Tech nology Center, has been named a Top 10 finalist for the 2026 Claes Nobel Educator of the Year Award by the National Society of High School Scholars .
The national honor recognizes educators who show exceptional dedication to student success, academic achievement, and excellence in education. Burdeshaw was selected as one of only 10 finalists across the country for her passion for teaching, commitment to students, and positive impact on her school community.
As a finalist, Burdeshaw will receive a $1,000 award from NSHSS, a personalized NSHSS Golden Apple Award, and an invitation to the NSHSS Scholar’s Day celebration in Atlanta this August, where the finalists will be recognized. One finalist will be selected at the event as the 2026 Claes Nobel Educator of the Year. NSHSS said the award spotlights educators who inspire students through leadership, mentorship, and meaningful learning experiences.
The organization also noted Burdeshaw’s work in fostering academic success and helping students prepare for future careers and opportunities. The NSHSS is an international honors organization that recognizes high-achieving students and educators and connects them with scholarships, leadership opportunities, internships, and educational resources. Dothan City Schools congratulated Burdeshaw on the achievement and said the district will be cheering her on in August, thanking her for the lasting impact she continues to have on students.
