No cause of fire has been determined at this time, as the investigation is still ongoing.
ASHFORD , Ala. - A man died as the result of a destructive house fire Tuesday night in Ashford . The fire happened just after 9:30 p.m. at a home along Old Highway 84, with multiple first responder units arriving to the scene to assist Ashford Fire in extinguishing the fully engulfed structure.
Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd confirmed the lone death in last night’s fire to News4 as 68-year-old Howard Lee McLeod. Byrd also confirmed that McLeod was the only person inside the home at the time the fire occurred, and that the home was completely destroyed. No cause of fire has been determined at this time, as the investigation is still ongoing. The Houston County Sheriff’s Office is leading that investigation.
In addition to Ashford Fire, other units confirmed to have responded to assist on scene were Cowarts Fire, Cottonwood Fire, Webb Fire and Lovetown Fire , along with Ashford Police and Ashford Rescue.
