Wednesday marks the 40th anniversary of the Challenger space shuttle explosion.
It was a moment of collective grief on Jan. 28, 1986, when the space shuttle exploded during a live broadcast. All seven crew members aboard were killed. This included mission specialist Ellison S. Onizuka, payload specialist Greg Jarvis, mission specialist Judy Resnick, pilot Mike Smith, commander Dick Scobee, mission specialist Ron McNair and Teacher in Space participant Sharon Christa McAuliffe.
