The center announced plans Wednesday for a second building. The new location, set to open this fall in Irondequoit, will house Beacon Place, a program designed to educate the community and further support victims of abuse. "Unfortunately, the prevalence of childhood abuse has not been reduced in our community," Bivona President and CEO Daniele Lyman-Torres said. "We can't let off the gas. We need to keep this partnership as strong as it was 20 years ago."Representatives from 24 agencies — including police departments and the Willow Domestic Violence Center, among others — also recommitted to preventing and assisting victims of abuse.
"For all of these partner agencies to be here and recommit, it's really just making a statement to our community that we do care and we are working hard and everyone is on board," said Lyman-Torres, who will be a guest on Good Day Rochester around 8:10 a.m. Thursday to share more details about Bivona's expansion.
