Child abuse is defined as any time an individual acts or fails to prevent something that causes harm or a high likelihood of harm to a child under the age of 18.
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and Saturday, the York County Children’s Advocacy Center worked tirelessly to raise awareness.According to the judicial system of Pennsylvania, over 32,000 people were charged in 36,000 child abuse cases between 2019 and 2023.They also released the top ten counties with the highest percentage of child abuse cases, and three of those counties are in the Susquehanna Valley.
On Saturday, the York County Children’s Advocacy Center held an event to 'Honor Their Voices' and recognize the 598 child abuse victims served by the agency in 2023. The event's intention was to call attention to child abuse, but they also honored the courage and resilience of the children who voiced their abuse.
