AUSTIN, Texas - Three of Texas' 10 Most Wanted Sex Offenders, Andrew Anthony Lopez, Albert Merell Jr., and Kerry Jay Armstrong, are now in custody after recent arrests. These individuals had been on the run since February, August 2025, and October 2025, respectively.

Andrew Anthony Lopez, 36, was arrested May 6 in San Antonio. Lopez had been wanted since February for allegedly failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements in Bexar County. In 2007, Lopez was convicted of burglary. In 2013, he was convicted in Bexar County of aggravated sexual assault of a child involving a 7-year-old girl and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Albert Merell Jr., 48, was arrested May 11 in downtown Corpus Christi. He had been wanted since August 2025 on a Tarrant County warrant alleging failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements. Merell was convicted in 2001 of aggravated sexual assault, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery and burglary and sentenced to 15 years in prison. He was released from prison in 2015.
In 2022, he was convicted in Tarrant County for failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements and received probation. Kerry Jay Armstrong, 57, was arrested in Thurber, in Erath County. Armstrong had been wanted since October 2025 on warrants alleging failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements and bail jumping. In 1992, Armstrong was convicted of delivery of marijuana and sentenced to five years in prison.
In 1997, he was convicted in Denton County of aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child sexual contact involving a 12-year-old girl and a 14-year-old girl. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison. In 2019, Armstrong was arrested for failing to comply with sex offender registration requirements and sentenced to three years in prison.
