AKRON, Ohio - Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich announced that an Akron man was sentenced Monday to prison for shooting into an occupied home. Zachary Bonner , 22, of Akron, was sentenced 10 to 12 years after he shot multiple times into an occupied home on Ford Ave nue in 2025.
Prior to her going to her friend’s house, Bonner forced her out of their apartment and made many statements with intent to kill her, the prosecutor’s office said. While at her friend’s house on Ford Avenue, she received a call from Bonner threatening to open fire on the house.According to surveillance footage from a nearby residence, a vehicle associated with Bonner drove past the home before shots were fired. During the investigation, those present on scene alerted officers that Bonner had returned and drove past the house again, which prompted a chase. The prosecutor’s office said Bonner was using GPS monitoring as a condition of community control in a separate manner in Summit County.The GPS data also confirmed his vehicle passed the residence at the time of the shooting, and officers recovered a firearm consistent with the shell casings inside his vehicle.One count of improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation or a school safety zone with a 3-year firearm specification, a second degree felony One count of discharge of a firearm on or near prohibited premises with a 3-year firearm specification, a third degree felony One count of having weapons while under disability with two specifications for forfeiture of a weapon while under disability, a third degree felony Bonner threatened and risked the lives of numerous innocent people that night.
