Long lines plagued travelers at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport Thursday due to TSA screening delays, according to authorities.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Long lines and hours-long wait times plagued travelers at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport ahead of a holiday weekend Thursday due to TSA screening delays, officials said.
An airport spokesperson said they were experiencing “longer-than-normal wait times” at the security screening checkpoint without specifying the reason. The spokesperson said the delays were an “operational matter” under TSA authority, and that the security agency was actively working to address the situation. In a response to Alaska’s News Source, a TSA spokesperson said the agency was experiencing “intermittent outages” of its x-ray screening equipment.
TSA also advised passengers to arrive at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights. Ted Stevens airport officials said extended wait times could be expected to last the rest of the day and possibly into Friday as well. Some travelers not using TSA PreCheck who spoke with Alaska’s News Source at the airport said they’ve experience wait times upwards of four hours.
