Zac Efron is set to star in and executive produce a new TV series adaptation of the 1987 cult classic horror film 'Angel Heart'. The series, written by Zach Baylin and directed by Jonathan van Tulleken, will follow a down-and-out NYC paparazzi who becomes entangled in a mysterious disappearance with possible supernatural elements.
Zac Efron is set to headline his first major TV project as the lead, following his recent guest appearance in 'The Studio' Season 1. The project, a series adaptation of the 1987 cult classic horror movie ' Angel Heart ', will be a fresh take on the original film which was based on William Hjortsberg 's 1978 novel 'Fallen Angel'.
Zach Baylin, creator of 'Black Rabbit', is on board to write the series, with Jonathan van Tulleken of 'Shogun' fame expected to direct multiple episodes. Efron, Baylin, and van Tulleken will also executive produce alongside Kate Susman for Youngblood Pictures, Marc Toberoff, Max Hjortsberg, Lorca Hjortsberg, Alice P. Neuhauser, Joe Hipps for Cut To, Stuart Manashil, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss.
The series will follow a struggling New York City paparazzi who is hired to find a missing woman, leading him down a rabbit hole of powerful elites and possible supernatural forces. The original film, directed by Alan Parker, featured a star-studded cast including Robert De Niro, Mickey Rourke, Lisa Bonet, and Charlotte Rampling. Despite mixed reviews upon release, 'Angel Heart' has since gained a dedicated cult following and maintains an 82% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes
