Intel has announced the Arc G-Series processors, designed specifically for handheld gaming devices, with initial models G3 and G3 Extreme running Windows 11. Featuring Xe3 architecture, XeSS 3, and advanced connectivity, these chips aim to boost efficiency and performance. Set to debut in June 2026, they will power devices like OneXPlayer and MSI Claw 8 EX AI+.

The current landscape for gamers is challenging, with component costs frequently skyrocketing due to artificial intelligence demand, creating financial pressure for electronics enthusiasts. Nintendo has returned to the market with a significant price increase, making handheld gaming devices a potentially more attractive option.

However, Intel has announced a new series of processors designed specifically for handheld gaming devices, the Arc G-Series, set to debut on May 28. Built on the Intel Core Ultra Series 3 architecture, the initial lineup includes the Intel Arc G3 and Intel Arc G3 Extreme, both supporting Windows 11. These processors prioritize better power efficiency and performance for handhelds and introduce XeSS 3.

Intel plans to reveal further details at Computex 2026 in Taipei, Taiwan, from June 2 to June 5. Consumers can expect to see the Intel Arc G-Series processors in handheld consoles starting in June, with more devices to be announced throughout 2026. Notable early adopters include OneXPlayer, the Acer Predator Atlas 8, and the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+. The Intel Arc G-Series processors are built on Intel's Xe3 architecture and incorporate Intel Arc B390 graphics.

They feature Day-0 driver support for libraries and an Xbox mode that mimics a full-screen console-like experience on Windows 11 PCs. Additional capabilities include Intel Precompiled Shaders, which fetch prebuilt files from Intel's cloud servers to accelerate game launches. The processor configuration includes two performance cores, eight efficiency cores, and four Low-Power efficiency cores. Connectivity options feature dual Bluetooth 6, Intel Thunderbolt 4 support with Thunderbolt Share for up to 40 Gbps bandwidth, and Intel Wi-Fi 7 R2.

XeSS 3 encompasses XeSS Super Resolution for AI-powered upscaling, XeSS Multi-Frame Generation for smoother gameplay via interpolated frames, and Xe Low Latency for faster input response. While this innovation may not directly reduce processor costs-Intel raised CPU prices by 15% in March-it promises a vastly improved gaming experience that could rival AMD's offerings.

It's important to note that supply chain issues extend beyond CPUs, as SSD and graphics card prices are also soaring, making the timing of Intel's new handheld-focused processors particularly relevant for cost-conscious gamers
