Prosecutors are looking into previous comments made by the suspect online and to city councilmembers after they allegedly brought a sword disguised as a cane to Wednesday’s Cincinnati City Council meeting.

Disturbing a lawful meeting During their arraignment Thursday, Dalton pleaded not guilty and received a $22,000 bond at 10%. If they bond out, they will be required to wear an electronic monitor and cannot go to the Centennial building or city hall.

Dalton’s defense attorney asked a Hamilton County Municipal Court judge to release the suspect on their own recognizance, arguing that the cane had been confiscated, police waited to make an arrest, and there were no direct threats made. Meanwhile, prosecutors cited previous comments made by Dalton, including last week when they said they are willing to die at city council.

During public comment, Dalton told city council they felt like they were blown off by councilmember Mark Jeffreys after the two discussed the future of Piatt Park. That is when Dalton said to council: “The people of Cincinnati will not back down, we have nothing left to lose. I’m willing to die for my people- are you? ” Prosecutors also cited some of Dalton’s social media posts, one of which is of the sword inside the cane.

Cincinnati police say Dalton was able to get the cane with a sword inside through security by claiming it was for disability purposes. Security did not realize the cane was a sword until Dalton started speaking during public comments, prosecutors say. A sworn statement by Cincinnati Police Sgt. Kinnebrew says he went to talk to Dalton about the weapon after they were done speaking, but “she began yelling and disrupting the city council meeting.

” “Can someone tell me what I’m being arrested for? Can someone please tell me? Please don’t let them take me ... I didn’t do anything wrong,” Dalton is heard saying in a video captured by an eyewitness.

It is unknown whether the suspect intended to use the sword or not. Police are still investigating the situation. Dalton has been arrested several times before Wednesday’s incident. Prosecutors say they did not have a criminal history until January, but the frequency in charges shows escalation.

In addition to the new charges, Dalton has been charged with failing to disclose personal information during an investigation, resisting arrest, criminal trespassing at an AA house, a pedestrian violation, and vandalism at Cappel’s, various criminal complaints say.
