ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Bean’s Café is wrapping up final preparation work leading into its signature fundraising event of the year. On Saturday, Bean’s Café is hosting the George Hieronymus Empty Bowl Project at the Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center.

We provide meals at Brother Francis Shelter and Claire House,” Matheson said.The event kicks off Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. During the event, guests can have unlimited soup. This year, Bean’s Café is providing six soups. The event will also feature around 1,000 one-of-a-kind ceramic or wood bowls that artists have made for the event — guests can take them home for an additional price. For $45, attendees can purchase a bowl and have unlimited soup. This year, bowls were made by artists at West High School, Eagle River High School, East High School, Turnagain Ceramics, Alaska Woodturners, the Alaska Clay Arts Guild and Rabbit Creek Studios. “They’re all beautiful and all very unique, just like all the people who come to the event. And some are very exquisite. Some are very simple, just like all of our personalities,” Matheson said. “Everyone likes a different bowl.” Ticket prices vary for the event. Children 10 and younger are free. Youth ages 10 to 17 are $10. General admission is $25. All attendees can choose any of the six soups and have unlimited refills.
