The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning on Wednesday, forecasting up to 6 inches of snow and winds up to 45 mph for Westmoreland and Fayette Ridges from 7 p.m. Wednesday until Friday morning. Travel is expected to be hazardous during the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes. Residents are advised to report snow or ice accumulations to the NWS Pittsburgh via phone, Facebook, or Twitter.
On Wednesday at 4:18 a.m. the National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning valid from 7 p.m. until Friday 7 a.m. for Westmoreland Ridges and Fayette Ridges .
The weather service says to expect, "Total snow accumulations between 4 and 6 inches. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph." "Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches," states the weather service. "Please report snow or ice accumulations by calling 412-262-1988, posting to the NWS Pittsburgh Facebook page, or using Twitter @NWSPittsburgh."Winter weather can make driving treacherous, leading to over 6,000 weather-related vehicle fatalities and over 480,000 injuries each year.
