What would you sacrifice for the person you love most? That's the question Bret Anthony Johnston asks in his novel 'We Burn Daylight,' which follows a religious cult leader's daughter and the sheriff's son as they fall in love in Waco, Texas.
For this edition of Chapter Chat , DHCLS Director Chris Warren shared" We Burn Daylight " by Bret Anthony Johnston DOTHAN , Ala. - Dothan Houston County Library Director Chris Warren stopped by the News4 studio to discuss this month’s edition of Chapter Chat !an epic novel of star-crossed lovers set in a doomsday cult on the Texas prairie that asks: What would you sacrifice for the person you love? “It’s actually based or inspired by some of the events that happened in Waco , Texas, in the early 90′s,” Warren said, referencing theas both fascinating and beautiful, and expressed how Johnston’s characters are pulled from Shakespeare’s“You have this doomsday cult led by an individual called ‘The Lamb,’ it resembles a lot of what happened with the Branch Davidians and David Koresh,” Warren said.
The novel follows Roy, the sheriff’s son who begins investigating a religious compound in his town, and Jaye, the teenage daughter of ‘The Lamb.’ “The two of them fall in love,” Warren said. “Seeing them fall in love over the course of this book is really beautiful.” Physical copies of the book are available at the Dothan Houston County Libraries and audiobooks are available through the
