Republican Representatives Lauren Boebert, Thomas Massie, and Victoria Spartz have voiced their concerns regarding Mike Johnson's candidacy for Speaker of the House. Massie has definitively stated his opposition, while Boebert and Spartz are still undecided. Johnson faces a critical situation as he needs unanimous support from Republicans to secure the Speakership, with Democrats anticipated to back Hakeem Jeffries.
Reps. Lauren Boebert , Thomas Massie , and Victoria Spartz all told Gaetz that they either oppose Johnson’s bid or require notable changes in order for him to have their votes.
Massie reinforced on Thursday that he will be a sure “no” vote. Massie said, “You could pull all my fingernails out, you could shove bamboo up in them, you can start cutting off my fingers. I am not voting for Mike Johnson tomorrow.” Boebert and Spartz would not say whether they would vote for Johnson. The former appeared more optimistic about him, remarking that if he commits to Rep. Chip Roy as chairman of the House Rules Committee, it “would secure the vote on the first round with no significant battle.”
