Rep. Thomas Massie on Friday doubled down and said he still plans to vote for someone other than Speaker Mike Johnson in the House Speakership vote on January 3.
He also shared the results of a poll he took on X, which asked if members of Congress should vote for Johnson or someone else. With 179,495 votes cast, the overwhelming majority — 93 percent — said Congress should vote for “someone else.” Only seven percent said lawmakers should vote for Johnson. “The most foolish and inept thing ever done by Congressional Republicans was allowing our country to hit the debt ceiling in 2025,” Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance said in a joint statement. “It was a mistake and is now something that must be addressed.”Meanwhile, Congress is considering a spending bill that would give sweetheart provisions for government censors and for Liz Cheney,” the statement continued.
