Several Alabama rivers rise to potential flood levels

As a deadly storm system brings flooding to states across the Midwest and south, several local bodies of water in Alabama have risen to potential flood levels.

) - As a deadly storm system brings flooding to states across the Midwest and south, several local bodies of water in Alabama have risen to potential flood levels. The Alabama River at Montgomery is expected to rise Tuesday evening to 35 feet – minor flood stage – before falling back to 25 feet by Saturday.

The Tallapoosa River at the Tallapoosa Water Plant is currently at 26.54 feet and is expected to rise Wednesday morning to 28.60 feet. This will create a potential threat for flooding. Catoma Creek near Montgomery is at 23.73 feet. It is currently falling, but a potential risk for flooding remains. The Alabama River at Selma is at 37.97 feet and is expected to rise to 41.20 feet Wednesday afternoon creating a high risk for flooding. The Coosa River at Wetumpka has risen to 33.33 feet. While not currently at the flood stage, it is much higher than it was before this weekend’s rain.
