A detailed summary of the upcoming June 2026 content update for Marvel Contest of Champions, celebrating the second season of X‑Men '97 with new characters, a permanent game mode, and special events.

Marvel Contest of Champions is gearing up for a major content drop in June 2026 to celebrate Season 2 of Marvel Animation's X‑Men '97. The update, described as mutant‑flavored, introduces two new playable Champions, a significant character rework, a permanent new game mode, and various limited‑time events.

The celebration kicks off with a livestream on June 10, 2026, where developers will detail the new Towers mode. The following day, June 11, Phyla‑Vell, the cosmic defender and descendant of Captain Marvel, joins the Battlerealm. She arrives with a rich backstory tied to the Phalanx invasion and her transformation into Martyr, the Avatar of Death, after saving her partner Moondragon. Her kit is expected to reflect her Kree/Eternal hybrid physiology and her later death‑based abilities.

A few weeks later, on June 28, Shatterstar, the mutant gladiator from the Mojoverse and son of Longshot and Dazzler, enters the game. Shatterstar is a time‑traveling warrior renowned for his swordsmanship, honed during his forced participation in Mojoverse entertainment. His inclusion ties directly into the season's theme, as Mojo-the omnipresent, ratings‑obsessed ruler of the Mojoverse-has once again manipulated events to force both Phyla‑Vell and Shatterstar into his latest multiversal television show.

Players will essentially be fighting to cancel Mojo's sinister streaming service, framing the new narrative events. Alongside the new Champions, the Thor (Ragnarok) character receives a major update on June 1, 2026, refreshing his abilities and visual presentation to align with the celebrated film iteration. The centerpiece of the update is Towers, a permanent game mode launching on June 17.

Towers challenge players to climb massive structures composed of Floors and Blocks, with each node housing a powerful Defender that can only be defeated at its maximum strength. This design forces careful team building and roster depth, as players must use a wide variety of unique Champions across multiple runs. To assist, Defender Mastery loadouts and a special Saga attacker Block are introduced. A pre‑launch livestream on June 10 will explain the mode's intricacies.

To support both new and veteran players, Kabam is rolling out several promotions. Starting June 8 at 5 PM PT, new players who create accounts between June 8 and July 6, 2026, and reach level 5 can claim a New Player Bundle giveaway via the in‑game Mail system. The bundle includes 20 X‑Men Champions-specifically listing Jean Grey and Bishop-to help fresh accounts build a strong mutant‑focused roster from the start.

For all players, Pride Month is celebrated with a Sparkle and Shade Event offering exclusive profile pictures, titles, and rewards that represent the diversity of the community. Additionally, a Champion‑focused Relic workout event runs throughout June, featuring special arenas that drop Relic‑based rewards, ISO, Gold, and exclusive Titles and Pics.

Finally, the June update includes the permanent addition of the Tooth and Claw Showcase within the Saga Showcase Tower. This feature combines Dinosaur and Meteor Tactics, providing a persistent challenge for Saga‑mode attackers. The overall patch delivers a substantial amount of content, reinforcing Marvel Contest of Champions' ongoing live‑service model with narrative tie‑ins, gameplay innovations, and community‑focused rewards
