Deny's death comes three months after the passing of Grey's Anatomy star Eric Dane at age 53 from ALS. Dane first revealed his ALS diagnosis in April 2025, and had been open about his battle with the disease in interviews.

The first signs of ALS are twitching of the muscles, weaknesses of the limbs and problems with swallowing and speaking. Vartan wrote that she had shared many wonderful moments with Deny on stage, and that he was a 'generous actor and a sensitive and funny man'.
