A national nonprofit organization is cancelling a student led protest this week that was designed to denounce the brutal violence at Garfield Heights schools. The One in Five Foundation for Kids, based in Dallas, Texas, says it has received several threats of serious harm ― and they don’t want to see anyone hurt.

, based in Dallas, Texas, says it has received several threats of serious harm ― and they don’t want to see anyone hurt. The foundation was launched after the Uvalde, Texas school shooting and its primary mission is to help prevent school tragedies and student bullying.

After viewing 19 Investigates’in the Garfield Heights City School District at 4pm on Wednesday at Garfield Heights High School. However, recent threats of serious violence have sabotaged the initiative ― forcing officials to reconsider.“We are not sharing the specific details of the threats to the foundation so as not to “fuel,” unnecessary concerns or fears within the school community,” wrote Chapin.“if we continue the protest “more harm than good”, would occur and that we would be met with “counter protests.”.“Heartbreaking to see such a negative response to our heartfelt efforts,” wrote Chapin. Chapin says the foundation’s efforts to work with Ohio State Representative Darnell Brewer have also hit a roadblock. This comes two weeks after Brewer appeared on “If it wasn’t for your report, maybe this would have got swept under the rug or pushed in a different direction,” Brewer told 19 Investigates on August 5. “But now that we have the attention out there, thank you for bringing it to our office’s attention.” Brewer said he would work with district officials, parents, students and the community to address issues of violence. However, foundation officials say Brewer has, “never reached out...since addressing the media publicly, nor has the district. From the foundation standpoint - he has lied!” Representative Brewer disagrees. In an email to 19 investigates he stated, “I have spoken with the Superintendent of Garfield Heights, parents, community leaders, religious leaders, and students in efforts to combat this issue, including seeking support from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Development.” Brewer also says he’ll address the student violence issues at the annual “Back to School Kickoff” this Thursday ― and again on October 2nd at the Garfield Heights Civic Center. Meanwhile, Chapin says the foundation’s efforts to resolve the issues of violence will also continue, despite the recent threats. “The district has continued to fail to communicate with the charity group on its concerns and attempts to aide and that, although it has postponed its August 21st planned protest, its formal complaints and request for review with the State is pressing forward; along with its hunger fast, announced earlier this past week,” wrote Chapin.TownHall owner posts $200k bond; Bobby George surrenders passport following several felony chargesRavenna neighbors outraged over repeat flooding problems
