Sugar soon realizes that there's an unsettling conspiracy in town threatening to derail the entire case. The trailer begins with Sugar admitting in a voiceover that Los Angeles is a lonely city to live in, despite its size, so he keeps himself busy to try to counteract the loneliness. His job as a private investigator is his main way of staying busy, and the new case he takes on involves trying to find a boxer's missing brother.
After Djen tells Sugar that the person they're looking for is on the run from some dangerous people, Sugar says, 'Hard enough finding someone who doesn't want to be found. Even harder when it's a race.
' Sugar also meets a new character named Charlotte, later Bernie Siegel warns Sugar about the gang he's meeting up with, leading to the protagonist being taken out in handcuffs and questioned at a police station. The private investigator vows to keep doing his job, but one of the officers thinks it's 'only a matter of time' before Sugar is stopped for good.
Sugar admits that everyone has secrets in this city and admits that the secrets he's uncovering go 'way above the head of some sheriff's deputy.
