Security researchers have detected active exploitation of a critical vulnerability in the TeleMessage messaging app, which could expose sensitive data from government agencies and enterprises.

A critical vulnerability in the messaging app TeleMessage, which is favored by government agencies and enterprises, has been actively exploited. Security researchers at GreyNoise have identified at least eleven IP addresses attempting to exploit the flaw, with thousands more potentially engaged in reconnaissance activities. The vulnerability, stemming from an insecure diagnostic endpoint in the app's Spring Boot Actuator , allows hackers to extract sensitive data from vulnerable systems.

\TeleMessage, similar in function to Signal but designed for archiving chats for compliance purposes, was acquired by US firm Smarsh in 2024. However, a May security breach resulted in the theft of user files, leading to a temporary suspension of services. The company has stated that the vulnerability has been patched, but the varying timeline for patch implementation across different user environments could leave some systems at risk. \This vulnerability is particularly concerning given TeleMessage's clientele, which includes government organizations and enterprises handling sensitive information. The broader issue of security vulnerabilities in applications is a constant challenge, and the severity of this particular flaw, coupled with TeleMessage's target user base, highlights the importance of ongoing vigilance and swift patch implementation
