LG Unveils World’s First Soundbar System Powered By Dolby Atmos FlexConnect

LG’s new Sound Suite introduces a user-friendly new twist - and an unprecedented channel count - to the soundbar world.

While LG has informed me that most of its current soundbar range is set to continue largely unchanged through 2026, it has today revealed one major and innovative new addition in the shape of the intriguingly named Sound Suite : A soundbar that leverages Dolby’s FlexConnect speaker technology to become, as its name suggests, much more than just another soundbar.

The new LG Sound Suite uses Dolby Atmos FlexConnect technology to deliver an upgradable soundbar package where the extra speakers contribute to the soundstage perfectly no matter how awkwardly positioned they are in your room. The core idea behind the Sound Suite is to deliver, in LG’s own words, “A premium audio system…that intelligently adapts to you and your space and flexibly expands to match your unique preferences.” Which is a fancy way of saying that the Sound Suite comprises a number of different speaker options from which you can put together your preferred package based on sound and budget requirements, and which then draws on Dolby’s FlexConnect technology to ensure that the speakers always deliver a convincing soundstage no matter how awkward your room shape and/or layout might be. At the Sound Suite’s heart is the all-new H7 soundbar, a seriously slick, attractive unit that manages to squeeze a remarkable 20 different driver units into its sleek form. Those drivers include three full-range up-firing speaker units , a built-in bass system where four woofer units are accompanied by no less than eight passive radiators, side-firing units built into each of the soundbar’s ends, and three full range speaker on the front edge delivering front left, front right and front center channels. To the H7 LG’s Sound Suite technology lets you add up to four external new wireless M5 or M7 ‘rear’ speakers to create a true surround set up, as well as a new external wireless W7 subwoofer if you want to inject more bass into proceedings. The compact M5 optional extra speakers feature a front speaker array comprising a silk-diaphragm tweeter and woofer plus an up-firing unit in their top edge, while the larger M7s provide a front-firing stereo set-up thanks to two full-range drivers and a woofer, as well as a larger up-firing unit than you get with the M5s. The Sound Suite speakers will still create a perfect surround sound experience even if placed in much more random locations than they are in this image. The W7, meanwhile is unusually attractive and flexible by subwoofer standards, thanks to an unusual rounded off square shape that allows you to either stand it on its edge or lie it on its back depending on what best suits your room layout. Inside the disarmingly attractive bodywork is a large 8-inch ‘Peerless’ driver, a whopping 22 litres of air-moving space, and the ability to hit frequencies as low as 25.9Hz. That’s the deepest frequency reach of any LG soundbar subwoofer to date. These speakers can be added to the H7 in a wide range of different configurations, and best of all you can place all the speakers almost anywhere you like and still get a convincing surround sound experience thanks to the way Dolby Atmos FlexConnect technology is able to automatically auto calibrate every wireless speaker in a FlexConnect system to deliver the optimum sound for its place in a sound stage, no matter how awkward its physical position might be. This automatically makes the Sound Suite the easiest to use and most truly flexible upgradable soundbar around. Examples of potential Sound Suite setups could include the H7 soundbar plus a pair of M5 speakers and the W7 subwoofer to deliver a 7.1.5-channel speaker set up; an H7 plus two M7s and a W7 to deliver a 9.1.5-channel surround sound set up; or an H7 plus four M7s and a W7 to deliver a massive 13.1.7 channel count. This latter most extreme example adds up to substantially more channels than you get even with Samsung’s current 11.1.4-channel HW-Q990F flagship soundbar. Various detail shots of the different Sound Suite components revealing the seemingly high quality of their construction. The M5 and M7 speakers have an extra trick up their sleeve in that they can each be used as separate solo wireless speakers, or in stereo or even four-speaker music configurations running entirely independently of the soundbar. This is all pretty complex stuff by soundbar standards, of course, so it’s perhaps not entirely surprising that LG has expanded the capabilities of its Alpha 11 AI Gen3 processor chip to provide some new AI Sound Pro+ features that are exclusive to the Sound Suite. A deep learning-based AI audio object separation technology, for instance, can separate components of sound for remastering to optimize the audio experience. A deep learning-based channel upmixer is capable of transforming 2-channel content into an immersive 7.1.4-channel experience, too, and an automatic audio genre recognition system is able to detect the type of content being watched and optimize the Sound Suite system’s sound accordingly. Dolby has revealed, too, that the Sound Suite isn’t the only part of LG’s upcoming AV product range to have brought FlexConnect technology on board. The feature is also coming to LG’s 2026 and, via a firmware update, 2025 TVs, so you can add M5 and M7 speakers directly to the TV’s audio system if you wish, without needing the H7 soundbar. FlexConnect then automatically takes on the job of balancing all the speakers to deliver a convincing and immersive surround sound stage. This direct FlexConnect hook up with LG TVs could be a particularly welcome option for people who’ve got their TV mounted on a wall. “For too long, enjoying immersive home audio meant compromise, either in your room layout or in sound quality. Dolby Atmos FlexConnect removes that trade-off,” says John Couling, Senior Vice President of Entertainment at Dolby Laboratories. “With LG’s new Sound Suite and latest lineup of TVs powered by Dolby Atmos FlexConnect, you get premium sound that adapts to your space—no complicated setup and no compromises. It reflects our commitment to elevating the home entertainment experience and bringing Dolby’s innovations to more households globally.” Speaking for LG on the company’s collaboration with Dolby for the Sound Suite, Lee Jeong-seok, head of the LG Media Entertainment Solution Company’s Audio Business Division says: “Together with Dolby, we’re bringing audio flexibility for every home. By integrating Dolby Atmos FlexConnect with LG Sound Suite’s wireless modular design and AI-driven tuning, consumers can personalize their setup and enjoy cinematic sound from any seat.” While we can expect to see the LG Sound Suite on show at the upcoming CES in Las Vegas from January 6-9, LG hasn’t revealed yet when exactly the Sound Suite will be available to buy, or how much its various components might cost. So keep an eye on
