Netflix is officially back in its sad men staring at crime boards era — and honestly, it’s about time. The streamer has unveiled the first image and release date for Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole, a bleak, morally messy crime series based on the novels by Jo Nesbø, one of the most influential crime writers of the last few decades.
The series premieres March 26, 2026, and everything about it screams slow-burn obsession, broken men, and vibes that will absolutely ruin your mood — in the best way. Here’s the full official synopsis, and yes, it goes hard: Created by one of the greatest storytellers in crime fiction, Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole is a whodunnit serial killer mystery led by famed anti-hero Harry Hole. Underneath the surface, this series is a nuanced character drama about two police officers – and supposed colleagues – operating on opposite sides of the law. Throughout the season, Harry goes head-to-head with his long-time adversary and corrupt detective Tom Waaler. Harry is a brilliant but tormented homicide detective who struggles with his demons. As the two navigate the blurred ethical lines of the criminal justice system, Harry must do all he can to catch a serial killer and bring Waaler to justice before it is too late. The series is directed by Øystein Karlsen and Anna Zackrisson, with Jo Nesbø himself serving as creator and screenwriter — which is huge for fans who’ve been burned by watered-down adaptations before. It’s produced by Working Title, with executive producers Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Amelia Granger, Katy Rozelle, Rene Ezra, Niclas Salomonsson, Karlsen, and Nesbø. In other words: prestige mode activated. Who Stars In 'Detective Hole'? The series stars Tobias Santelmann as Harry Hole, alongside Joel Kinnaman, and then just keeps going with one of the biggest casts we can remember seeing. It also features Pia Tjelta, Ellen Helinder, Anders Baasmo, Kåre Conradi, Simon J. Berger, Peter Stormare, Fridtjov Såheim, Eili Harboe, Atle Antonsen, Manish Sharma, Jesper Christensen, Kristoffer Joner, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Linn Skåber, Jonas Strand Gravli, Sonny Lindberg, Agnes Kittelsen, Nader Khademi, Agot Sendstad, Maja Christiansen, Frank Kjosås, Kelly Gale, Oddgeir Thune, Ravdeep Singh Bajwa, Henrik Mestad, Ingar Helge Gimle, Henriette Steenstrup, Helge Jordal, Eirik Hallert, Anders Danielsen Lie, Ane Dahl Torp, and Dagny rounding out the ensemble.Mindhunter Like Follow Followed TV-MA Crime Drama Thriller Release Date 2017 - 2019 Showrunner Joe Penhall Directors David Fincher Writers Joe Penhall Cast See All
