The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced that they will build a temple in Fairbanks, the second temple to be built in Alaska.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints leaders say a 10,000 square foot temple, with a meetinghouse and an ancillary building, will be built on 7.59 acres of land on the south side of Geist Road , near the Parks Highway entrance.
With 34,000 Alaska members, church leaders say their only temple in the state is currently located on Anchorage’s Brayton Drive. “The temple in Fairbanks will be the second house of the Lord in the state of Alaska‚” Russel M. Nelson, the president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints church leaders said in a press release. “The ordinances and covenants of the temple are of eternal significance. We continue to build more temples to make these sacred possibilities become a reality in each of your lives.”
