MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - An investigation is underway after a police officer hit a pedestrian while responding to a disturbance call in Middletown March 19 . A spokesperson with the city says the pedestrian was hit by the cruiser while standing in the middle of the road, outside of a crosswalk on Grand Avenue at 9:17 p.
m. The cruiser’s light and sirens were not active at the time of the crash, which is part of the police department’s protocol when responding to a disturbance call, the spokesperson explained. The officer stopped the cruiser and immediately began to help the pedestrian and call EMS to assist. The pedestrian was transported to a nearby hospital with serious by non-life-threatening injuries. According to the city, the officer was not traveling at an excessive rate of speed when the collision happened. The incident is being investigated by the Butler County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team.
