ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Paws for Purple Hearts Alaska welcomed its newest addition, Brando, thanks to a major donation from Hilcorp . The donation, raised through Hilcorp 's seat-upgrade fundraiser, was over $106,000 and was presented earlier this month.
Paws for Purple Hearts is a national nonprofit that works with veterans to provide service dogs and therapy. The funding helps fund their ability to take in new dogs like Brando, who is part of their breeding program. The average cost for training one of these service dogs for two years is about $40,000-$45,000. The dogs provide comfort and help veterans with tasks like picking up objects and grabbing medication from the fridge.
For Aaron Eller, a veteran, having a service dog made him feel wanted and happy. Paws for Purple Hearts has seven locations nationwide, and veterans can be paired with dogs at any location
