As Ohio Wesleyan University student Ian Sander moves boxes around a Grove City warehouse, he's helping carry the weight in fight to end hunger in Central Ohio.

Over a hundred Ohio Wesleyan University students spent a day in August volunteering with the Mid-Ohio Food Collective as part of Camp Oh-Woo, an orientation program for all incoming new students. September 19, 2024 “Honestly, I feel gratitude for this place, even being here,” Sander said. “To be able to serve these people. To help people who don’t really have access to these sorts of things.

“I thought it was a great opportunity to get to know Columbus,” he said. “To really give back to my community, which has been something that’s really important to me.” “They save our organization over $3 million in labor each and every year,” Brauning said. “We have over 17,000 unique individuals that share the same cause that we do: that they don’t want to see their neighbors go hungry.”

Brauning said MOFC thought increased demand would likely subside as the pandemic came to an end, but the opposite has happened due to inflation and other factors.
