Shiner Beer, one of Texas' finest exports, is getting a barbecue joint called K. Spoetzl BBQ Co.
will open its first-ever barbecue restaurant, at the historic Spoetzl brewery in the city of Shiner, an hour and a half east of San Antonio.
But the 114-year-old brewery says barbecue lovers should not fret. Serving up Shiner’s promise of brisket is K. Spoetzl BBQ Co. Pit Master Tommy Schuette should be familiar to anyone who has spent time in Shiner. That’s because Schuette was the proprietor of the now-shuttered Shiner Barbecue Co. The name of the new barbecue restaurant is an obvious nod to Kosmos Spoetzl, the brewery's first brewmaster and founder.
Schuette brings over 20 years of experience and a “unique take on grilling high-quality meats made for pairing with beer and cocktails,” Shiner said in a news release. K. Spoetzl BBQ's menu features everything you might expect at a Texas barbecue joint: brisket, chopped brisket and pulled pork. There's also sandwiches and sides, including a chopped brisket potato. But no macaroni and cheese.
